Festival Fashion Decoded
I’LL BE THE FIRST TO ADMIT, I HAVE A GUILTY PLEASURE FOR FESTIVAL FASHION. HIDDEN AMONG FLOWER CROWNS AND SUEDE FRINGE BAGS IS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PUREST FORM OF SELF-EXPRESSION. IT’S CLICHE, I KNOW, BUT MUSIC FESTIVALS EVOKE A FEELING OF FREEDOM, LIGHT-HEARTEDNESS AND, QUITE SIMPLY PUT, FUN. BUT LET’S NOT FORGET, WE’RE HERE FOR THE MUSIC. IT ISN’T CALLED A “FASHION FESTIVAL” FOR A REASON— THAT’S FASHION WEEK.
With that being said, the most important part of festival dressing is practicality. Your focus should be on the music and unforgettable times with your friends. Do you really want to spend $400+ on worrying about if your sticky boobs are going to slide off all day? Didn’t think so.
Here’s my list of do’s and don’ts as we head into festival season:
Find a lightweight and secure crossbody purse: You’ll want one that lets you forgot it’s there while simultaneously fending off pickpockets. Another pro-tip is finding one with extra, hidden pockets for carrying whatever you see fit *wink, wink*..
Shop for the perfect pair of shorts: Avoid stiff denim at all costs— denim + humidity = bad times.
Build up a selection of lightweight dresses: they’re comfortable, airy and look dressed up with minimal styling efforts.
Always bring a surplus of hair ties: Impromptu rainstorms and being directly hit with sun all day may make you give up on that perfectly done style.
Bring your brand new Ray Bans: Honestly, just go to Forever 21 and find a pair that you don’t care about falling into the mud and being stepped on.
Wear suede: I don’t care if you think you’re Kendall Jenner rocking suede wide-leg pants, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Just don’t.
Wear open-toed shoes: There’s mud and people step on your feet, so just be prepared. I’ve lost a flip flop and nail from this— really not cute looks. Choose sneakers or booties.
Overstyle yourself: There’s a plethora of adorable but intricately fastened tops and rompers out there. As insta-worthy as they are, make sure they’re comfortable for dancing around all day. That’s what’s most important.
